That's not how no-contact works.

A Wisconsin woman has said a DoorDash driver sent her personal messages through the app and asked for her phone number after delivering her order, despite her having selected a no-contact delivery option. The woman shared her account on Reddit’s r/doordash community, where it drew significant attention and sparked debate among other users.

According to her post, she was home alone at the time of the delivery and had set her instructions for the order to be left at her door. She later revealed in the comments that she is 16 years old, adding that the driver appeared to be a grown adult.

The woman said the driver messaged her after the delivery, claiming, “I think we met before,” and referring to a previous delivery near her home, where he allegedly worked on a neighboring property. She said she did not recognize him and denied ever meeting him, adding that she believed he may have identified her address from earlier work in the area rather than from any personal interaction between them.

She felt it was inappropriate for the driver to contact her after the delivery

According to her post, the driver continued messaging her beyond the delivery and asked for her phone number, which she described as inappropriate and uncomfortable given the professional context. After the incident, she said she changed her display name in the app out of concern. She also stated that DoorDash issued her a small credit of $5 after she reported the situation, and she expressed hope that the driver would be removed from the platform.

Most users who responded to the post appeared to be supportive. A commenter advised her that she could contact customer support and request that the driver be blocked from her future orders, writing, “You can definitely tell customer support that you do not feel comfortable or safe after the interaction with this driver and ask them to block the dasher from getting your orders again, speaking from experience!”

Another commenter said they use a man’s name on delivery apps for this reason, writing, “I have my name set to a man’s name for this reason. That’s the world we live in, unfortunately.” The original poster responded that she had changed her name, adding, “i felt so silly but this comment makes me feel better, sad that we have to do ts.” 

Not all DoorDash driver interactions make headlines for negative reasons, as some have gone viral for unexpectedly kind or amusing moments. A commenter who identified themselves as a DoorDash driver said they did not understand why some drivers behave this way, writing, “as a fellow male dasher i don’t understand why people (mostly guys) can’t just know that there’s a time and a place for such behavior and it’s NEVER on something like doordash.” 

Disputes between customers and drivers over unclear or changing delivery instructions have also been a recurring point of frustration on the platform. Not all commenters agreed that the incident warranted a formal report. A user suggested the woman could have simply told the driver he was making her uncomfortable, writing, “I understand he was creepy, but not everything needs to be reported.”

A commenter suggested in the thread that she report the incident to both DoorDash and local police to create a paper trail, writing, “cases like this, while it may lead to nowhere, are better to have a paper trail than not so that if he ever does come back and harasses you again, you have supporting evidence and documentation.” The original poster said she planned to follow that advice.

Some users also pointed out that the “no contact” delivery setting does not prevent drivers from sending in-app messages, with one commenter clarifying, “No contact doesn’t mean no contact. It means NO PHYSICAL CONTACT. It’s left over from Covid.” Several users in the thread said they had previously adjusted their account names or requested driver blocks after similar experiences of their own.
