Woman walks out to her apartment balcony after a neighbor’s gender reveal party. What she sees makes her ask: ‘Why are people so disrespectful?’

She didn’t ask to be a part of this.

A TikTok video showing the aftermath of a gender reveal party has racked up more than a million views. Heather, who posts as @heatherann0204, says pink powder from a neighbor’s celebration spread across her apartment balcony, coating everything from the wooden floor tiles to her potted plants. She criticized the partygoers for leaving the mess behind. Via her on-screen text, she asked, “Why are people so disrespectful?”

She said in the clip, “Dude, it’s all over and like my neighbors too…” She touched a broad leaf on a large variegated Monstera and noted the pink powder. The fine powder transferred to her fingers and palm as she wiped the leaf, and she showed the residue to the camera.

In the caption, Heather wrote that the common areas of the apartment building are “NOT the place to have your gender reveal party with PINK DUST going everywhere.” She stated there was “No consideration, care or clean up for the other residents who live here.” She added, “Surprise; it’s a girl. Now I’ll be spending my Sunday off cleaning pink dust.” The first video has gained over a million views.

Resident shows powder across courtyard, plants, and neighboring units

In a follow-up TikTok video, Heather gave a tour of the complex. She showed a rectangular pool with fountains and said, “Great view of the pool. Gorgeous. Yes, gorgeous.” She pointed to pink powder on concrete steps and a metal handrail. She noted that someone had already wiped some areas but realized cleaning would be harder. She said she was not sure where the people had been standing when the powder went up.

Heather pointed out pink powder on orange metal chairs and the surrounding ground. She panned to a neighboring patio and said they “even got hit with it back there.” The ground, a purple mat, and gray chairs were covered. She showed a dog bed with powder and noted that the residents have a dog. She counted the affected units, saying, “You got one apartment, two apartment, mine, three.”

She returned to her plants and wiped a surface so viewers could see the pink. She said, “Look at my leaves! Oh, oh my gosh, my rosemary! I can’t even eat this anymore. My lemon tree!” She showed another patio that was also covered and mentioned that those residents have a dog as well. She said the powder reached the pool and settled into cracks. She asked, “How did it make it this far?”

Heather said in the video, “If you’re going to have a gender reveal, that’s fine, but there’s other ways to do it. And if you’re going to do something like this, do it on your own property. Don’t be doing it on other people’s. It’s just really inconsiderate.” Gender reveals have a long record of going off-script, such as an alligator crashing a Florida gender reveal.

She stated she had already spent about 30 minutes cleaning before getting frustrated. She added that someone would have to spend hours on their hands and knees wiping leaves and surfaces, and that the people who did it should clean it up.

In the caption of that video, Heather wrote that her patio got hit the worst. She said she called management, who said it was on UDR, who then blamed management. She stated they would not do anything or meet with her until the next day. She hoped they would check cameras and fine whoever did it. She wrote that neither the cleaning ladies nor she should have to clean up after the behavior.

In a later TikTok update, Heather said the apartment complex had reassured her two separate times that somebody would come first thing that morning. She was up and ready at 8 AM. By 5:30 PM, no one had arrived. She texted around 10 AM asking for an ETA and received no response. She said she got a phone call from corporate, who told her someone would take care of it and would be there that night or the next day.

Heather said she decided to clean it herself because it had been driving her crazy and she was having a hard time doing anything else. She called the plants her babies and said they cost a lot of money. She has had many of them for years. She stated the powder cannot sit on the leaves because it will prevent them from processing the sun to make food.

She noted it was also her watering day. She showed that where the powder got wet, it turned into a paste that was harder to remove. She said she has to clean the plants individually and cannot reach some of the higher ones.

Viewers offered mixed reactions under the first video. One person suggested billing the people responsible for the cleanup. Another recommended calling the complex and filing a complaint. Heather replied to that suggestion and said, “We tried, they are useless.” One commenter pushed back on concerns about damage and wrote, “It’s just color. It’ll wash off. We use the same stuff for Holi every year and it doesn’t ruin anything.”

Another viewer focused on the plants and said, “The constellations would be my last straw they’re so expensive.” One person offered a different approach and wrote, “You should pretend to want to find them to give them a gift and they’ll show up asap lol.” Gender reveals have also stirred heated reactions elsewhere, like a Tennessee Mother’s Day gender reveal controversy.
