Nobody likes to be kept waiting for their fast food. After all, what’s the point of fast food if it’s not fast? But Maryland woman Ashley Andrews may have taken things a tiny bit too far.
Andrews, 30, apparently became frustrated when, on June 18, she headed to a Taco Bell in Chester, Maryland for some food. As per a report from the Queen Anne’s County Office of the Sheriff, Andrews allegedly “had become upset over her wait time for her food”.
A verbal argument is then said to have erupted between her and the staff. Andrews then told them to “meet her outside in the parking lot”, then allegedly lifted her shirt to reveal a firearm, and used further threatening language towards the Taco Bell staff.
The Sheriff’s Office confirms that this account matches what they’ve seen on the restaurant’s surveillance footage, saying that she placed her hand on the grip of the gun as she argued with staff.
The cops were duly summoned, and a description of Andrews was provided. They arrived and detained both Ashley and another person in her group, who was also engaged in a “verbal argument” with the staff. They also confirmed that Andrews’ firearm was loaded.

Andrews has now been charged with 2nd Degree Assault, Handgun on Person, Disturbing the Peace/ Disorderly Conduct, and Reckless Endangerment. She was released on a $5,000 bond and banned from the Taco Bell. On the Handgun on Person charge alone, Maryland has a mandatory minimum 30-day sentence on conviction, so Andrews is likely to face at least some time behind bars for this incident.
However, at least everyone involved in this incident walked away alive. Just last month, news broke that a similar altercation between fast food employees and an irate customer ended with a fatality after a 76-year-old Indiana woman keeled over and died on the floor of a Tim Hortons after a violent confrontation with staff after a mistake was made with her order.
In an aside, Chester locals chimed in on the Sheriff’s report about the incident, alleging that this Taco Bell does indeed have long waiting times, with Chad Bell noting that he’s been kept waiting for up to 30 minutes for his food. Christine Costello agreed, saying, “it’s ALWAYS that long or longer. Someone finally got fed up!”
Law & Crime reports that Andrews will be represented by a public defender and that she’s invoked her right to a speedy trial, which is currently listed for July 23. She was unavailable for comment on the incident.
