Two teenagers are dead, and 10 others are injured following a shooting at a Texas house party that turned violent on May 2. People reported that the true crime incident, which occurred at an apartment complex on South Coulter Street in Amarillo, has left authorities searching for two unidentified suspects who remain at large.
The trouble began at an entirely different location earlier in the night. According to the Amarillo Police Department, a group of people was asked to leave the original party. Instead of heading home, these individuals followed several partygoers to the South Coulter Street apartment complex. Once they arrived at the new location, police say the suspects “attempted to enter an apartment and opened fire using a rifle-style weapon.”
It’s a terrifying situation for everyone involved. The shooting broke out at approximately 2:00 AM local time. Home security footage shared by police captures the chaos, showing people scrambling around the property as the sound of dozens of gunshots fills the air. It’s hard to watch, but it provides a clear look at the intensity of the scene.
I can’t even understand how or why this happened
The two teenage victims have been identified as 17-year-old Ezekiel Rudy Almazan and an unnamed 16-year-old boy. Beyond those two fatalities, at least 10 other people sustained injuries during the gunfire, including several suffering from gunshot wounds.
Investigators are currently piecing together the logistics of the attack. While a Glock 9mm handgun was discovered on a landing outside one of the units, the sheer volume of cartridge casings found in an alley south of the complex leads police to believe that multiple weapons were involved in the shooting.
Although the suspects are still unidentified, police have stated that the shooting appears to have been a targeted attack. Amarillo Police Chief Thomas Hover provided some insight into the connection between the parties involved.
In a statement released on May 2, Chief Hover noted that an “investigation into this morning’s events has identified that the suspects have an affiliation with the targeted location and were known to one of the occupants at the party.” Even with this link, a specific motive for the shooting has not been established.
Chief Hover emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, “This criminal behavior is unacceptable, and the Amarillo Police Department and our regional law enforcement partners are committed to the safety of our community.” For now, the investigation is very much active.
Law enforcement officials are asking residents in the area to check their doorbell cameras or other home security systems for any footage that might help identify the two suspects. The police have been clear that this is an ongoing process. They plan to release additional information as it becomes available.
Please note that the following is CCTV footage of the shooting; watch with caution.
It’s an awful situation for the Amarillo community, and everyone is waiting to see how this investigation unfolds as officials work to track down those responsible for the violence.
