A night out in Florida took an unexpected turn for two women after a restaurant reported an unpaid bill of around $130, according to Yahoo News. The incident happened in Englewood, where the investigation began when employees at The Waverly contacted authorities about two customers who allegedly left without settling their tab.
According to their account, the women rushed across the parking lot and drove off in a Chevrolet Equinox. A worker said they allegedly ran across the parking lot, jumped into the car, and sped away so fast that they nearly struck people on a sidewalk.
Roughly three hours later, the officer spotted a tan Chevrolet Equinox at a nearby gas station. The two women standing beside it appeared to match the descriptions from the restaurant, so he walked up to them. The video, posted by Patrol Pro on YouTube, showed the encounter between the officer and the two women.
Apparently, they were college students
The conversation began with where the two women had been the following evening. One woman reportedly talked about stopping at a bar for water and mentioned that she was new to Florida. She also brought up drinking tequila and allegedly said she had recently started working at Arthur’s, although her explanations became difficult to follow as the questioning continued.
She repeatedly said she wanted to go home and worried about how her parents might react if she ended up in custody. The deputy then described the reported incident at The Waverly and pointed out that the women and their vehicle appeared to match the information provided by witnesses.
One woman continued to deny her involvement, while the other eventually stopped responding to the questions. As the deputy followed up with more questions and told them honesty could affect whether the matter resulted in a court date or an arrest, one of them. Consequently, one of the women allegedly offered to accept responsibility rather than see her younger sister arrested.
“I will take that responsibility,” she told the deputies, repeatedly asking that her sister not be handcuffed. She also reportedly mentioned that she was a college student and was concerned about how her family would react to the situation.
The encounter ultimately ended with both women in handcuffs, as seen in the video. Patrol Pro’s narration identifies the younger woman as 20 years old and says she was allegedly charged with defrauding an innkeeper involving less than $300.
