Daredevil handles the relationship between Matt and Elektra in a very different way to the comic books, and that also applies to the reason they part ways. When Elektra presents the man who ordered the murder of Matt’s father as a gift of sorts to him, he inevitably loses his cool and savagely beats him (but clearly feels guilty about his actions).
However, things take a dark turn when Elektra starts egging Matt on to kill him; it instantly becomes clear to us and the future vigilante that these two may not have as much in common as first thought and that there’s a real darkness within her.
