A grueling Netflix miniseries that’s easily one of the streamer’s best ever makes an unexpected comeback

It might not be the most talked-about, but it's definitely one of the best.

Netflix might have carved out a niche for churning out some of the most talked-about TV shows on the face of the planet, and then igniting all the wrong sorts of conversations when many of them end up being canceled in record time, but Maid doesn’t get spoken about anywhere near often enough when it comes to naming the platform’s best-ever episodic exclusives.

On paper, it states a stronger case than almost any other series seeing as it boasts critical and audience approval ratings on Rotten Tomatoes of 94 and 85 percent, while it also found plenty of awards season recognition. Margaret Qualley scored Best Actress nominations at both the Golden Globes and Primetime Emmy for her devastating performance, while Maid itself was shortlisted for Best Miniseries or Television Film and the former.

It deserved all of the praise it got, but it didn’t quite manage to capture the zeitgeist in the way Netflix’s buzziest productions tend to do, even if it did turn out to be one of the most-watched television titles of 2021. However, more than 18 months after its initial release, the hard-hitting story of Qualley’s Alex Russell leaving her abusive boyfriend to take their child and carve out a new life for herself has returned to prominence with a vengeance.

Per FlixPatrol, Maid has been resurrected as one of the biggest hits on the content library this week, having embarked on a renaissance that’s seen it claim a spot on the Top 10 in 37 countries around the world to take up ninth place on the worldwide watch-list. Some Netflix OGs don’t have any longevity, but it looks like this one definitely does.
