If you’ve got a soft spot for Netflix original fantasy – which a lot of people do based on the campaigns and petitions that regularly circulate – then you’ve no doubt been frustrated at least once by the streaming service’s maniacal cancellation spree. On the other hand, Ragnarok is returning for a third and final season after a lengthy hiatus, and a lot of people may not even know it exists.
As you can no doubt infer from the title, the series is inspired by Norse mythology, unfolding in the fictional Norwegian village of Edda. There’s something strange about the place, though, which becomes clear when events that could best be described as otherworldly begin unfolding, with high school student Magne Seier at the center of a storm both figurative and literal.
Ragnarok isn’t quite held in the highest esteem as a top-tier Netflix exclusive, but it has performed well enough to merit not just one, but two renewals. That being said, it’s been a long time since the last run of episodes dropped back in May of 2021, but the good news is that the third and final season has been confirmed to arrive on August 24.
It more than likely won’t set the worldwide watch-list alight, but based on the current state of affairs, any fantasy hailing from the axe-wielding outfit that gets to end on its own terms should be lauded. A coming-of-age superhero story that doubles as a high school drama would raise more awareness were it an American production without a doubt, so fans maybe shouldn’t be sleeping on Ragnarok any longer.
