A triple-hitter Disney powerhouse answers fans’ prayers by setting their sights on an MCU return

'Secret Invasion,' here we come?

Not many people can legitimately claim to be a Disney princess, a bounty hunter in the Star Wars universe, and a kick-ass Marvel hero, but Ming-Na Wen is… Well, OK, she’s pretty much the only person who can make that claim. In between voicing the original Mulan and playing Fennec Shand in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, Wen portrayed Melinda May across all seven seasons of ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Despite never reaching the widespread acclaim of, say, Daredevil, AoS certainly possesses a fiercely passionate fanbase to this day, with many Marvel lovers desperate for some veterans from the series to return as the MCU expands on Disney Plus. The good news is that Wen is right there along with them. During an interview to hype up her role in Max’s Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai animated show, the veritable Disney powerhouse told ComicBook.com:

“I really can’t tell what’s going to happen, but I do know that having played her for seven years, 22 episodes every year, I miss being her. As an actor, we give birth to these characters and they become a part of us; they’re in our DNA, and I do miss her being, so I hope one day that I get to bring Agent May back.”

Ming-Na Wen has supported the recent social media campaign to have Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. embraced as canon.

Following Boba Fett perhaps not going down so well as Lucasfilm hoped, it sadly seems like we’re not getting more of Shand in the immediate future. But Star Wars‘ loss could be Marvel’s gain, as it may mean Wen’s schedule is free enough to drop back into the MCU (or join the MCU, depending on your point-of-view on AoS‘s canonicity) sometime in Phase Five. It’s probably too late to ask for a last-minute Secret Invasion cameo, right? Oh, well, at least there’s still all those Chloe Bennet comeback rumors.

Hear Ming-Na Wen in Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai when it premieres May 23 on Max. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. can be streamed on Disney Plus.
