HBO is all but set to stage “The Battle of the Bastards,” and a series of new Game of Thrones screenshots ramp up the excitement ahead of Sunday’s all-out war.
Acting as the penultimate episode of season 6, the images above showcase a scope and scale that we haven’t seen from Game of Thrones since the defining – and indeed hopeless – battle against the White Walkers at Hardhome. Flanked by a similar crew of Wildlings and, on this occasion, his step-sister Sansa, Kit Harington’s Jon Snow eyes glory and a chance to inherit Rob’s title as the King of the North.
On the other end of the face-off is Iwan Rheon’s sneering Ramsay Bolton, presiding over a massive army that simply dwarfs Snow’s ragtag regiment of crooks, thieves, Crows and a giant. If ardent Game of Thrones fans have been pining for action and spectacle over the past few episodes, “The Battle of the Bastards” looks set to deliver in spades.
It’s the Bastard of Bolton against the Bastard of Winterfell, and HBO will crown the victor when Game of Thrones episode 6.09 premieres on Sunday, June 19. For the time being, you can whet your appetite via the preview below.
