Aside from Oliver Queen himself, one could argue that if any recurring character on Arrow has endured the most personal growth in recent memory, it’s that of Earth-2’s Laurel Lance. Since coming over from the universe next door a few seasons back, she fought at the side of Ricardo Diaz before turning on him and beginning her own path to redemption. As Star City’s District Attorney, she was instrumental in getting Ollie freed from prison.
Unfortunately, all of her hard work has been jeopardized now that Emiko Queen has leaked photos confirming her past association with Diaz to the press. As a result, her days as a public servant are now likely over, and the official synopsis for “Lost Canary” confirms her going off the deep end:
BIRDS OF PREY; CAITY LOTZ GUEST STARS — After being accused of murder and having her criminal past exposed, Laurel (Katie Cassidy) goes full Black Siren and teams up with an old criminal acquaintance, Shadow Thief (guest star Carmel Amit), to go on a crime spree around Star City. While Dinah (Juliana Harkavy) aims to bring Laurel in, Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) refuses to give up on her friend and tries everything to get through to her, even summoning Sara Lance (guest star Caity Lotz) for help. However, Laurel rebuffs all her efforts, forcing the former friends to face off against each other. Kristin Windell directed the episode written by Jill Blankenship & Elisa Delson (#718). Original airdate 4/15/2019.
As you probably noticed, series veteran and current Legends of Tomorrow star Caity Lotz returns to the show which launched the Sara Lance character so that she and Dinah Drake may pull Laurel back from the abyss. Yes, this is the Birds of Prey-inspired episode that’s been talked about for the past few months, and should make for some memorable television.
Those with a sharp eye should recall Caity appearing in the first trailer for the episode in question, albeit in a “blink and you’ll miss it” kind of moment. Hopefully we’ll get a better look at her, Dinah and Laurel whenever the network coughs up some promotional photos. My best guess is that those could arrive as soon as next week.
Arrow returns with new episodes on Monday, April 15th on The CW.
