Daredevil TV Series Begins Filming In July

After the disappointment that many of us felt with Marvel's first TV effort, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., the superhero powerhouse has a lot to prove with their next batch of shows, which will be coming to Netflix in 2015. Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage will be making their Marvel Cinematic Universe debuts with their own solo outings, which will then culminate in a team-up called The Defenders.

After the disappointment that many of us felt with Marvel’s first TV effort, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., the superhero powerhouse has a lot to prove with their next batch of shows, which will be coming to Netflix in 2015. Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage will be making their Marvel Cinematic Universe debuts with their own solo outings, which will then culminate in a team-up called The Defenders.

Daredevil is undoubtedly the most well known character in this group, and will therefore be coming to the small screen first. In an interview with HitFix, Marvel Studios head of TV Jeph Loeb confirmed that the show will begin filming in July in New York City. It will be followed by Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and finally, Luke Cage.

Daredevil will be coming to us courtesy of The Cabin In The Woods director Drew Goddard, who will also write and direct the pilotDexter and Twilight executive producer Melissa Rosenberg has already been brought on as the Jessica Jones showrunner, while the other two (Fist and Cage) are still in early stages of development.

Loeb didn’t answer whether or not these Netflix shows will follow the streaming service’s preferred “binge watch” method of release, instead promising that people will be “delighted” with them. As I said earlier, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has (so far) failed to live up to its potential or prove that the MCU works as well on the small screen as it does on the silver screen. If any character stands the chance of fixing that though, it’s Daredevil, so my hopes are pretty high for this series.

Overall, the idea of Marvel and Netflix working together to bring these characters to life is extremely exciting, and with cameras set to start rolling this summer, I expect that we’ll see some casting news announced in the near future. We’ll of course keep you updated on any new developments on Daredevil, so be sure to stay tuned!
