1) Every Which Way But Loose
I know I’m sounding like Mr. Naysayer this week, but I’m of the opinion that just because something can be done in live action doesn’t mean that it should be. Sure, seeing the Flash square off against the likes of Gorilla Grodd or King Shark on the printed page or on a cartoon is just fine, but I still have a hard time adjusting to seeing a flesh and blood man doing battle with them.
But I’ll be damned if this episode wasn’t good.
And therein lies one of the greatest strengths of The Flash: Its willingness to fully embrace its comic book roots. As a result of that, the team’s journey to Earth-2’s Gorilla City ended up being a crowning achievement in visual effects on network television.
To the crew’s credit, it’ll probably be a long time before we forget Barry Allen and Solovar going head to head Gladiator (or “Sweaty Man,” as we’ve learned it’s called on Earth-19) style in the arena. Let’s hope that next week’s conclusion to this two-parter proves to be just as thrilling.
