Disney beats Netflix at its own cancellation game by simply wiping abandoned shows off the face of the planet

A new player has entered the game, and there's no messing around.

Much has been made of Netflix’s rampant desire to cancel as many widely-adored fantasy shows as possible, but at least the streaming service still keeps the series in question as part of the content library in the aftermath of the axe being wielded, something Disney has no intention of doing.

While the Mouse House’s platform hasn’t been churning out anywhere near as many high-profile exclusives as its biggest competitor in the streaming wars, both the Disney Plus and Hulu libraries had become increasingly overstuffed with episodic originals that don’t seem to have a place in the world any more.

As part of its latest cost-cutting measure, the company has instead opted to not just play Netflix at its own game but take things several steps further by simply wiping its TV shows that no longer air from existence. Among the biggest casualties are Willow, Y the Last Man, The Mighty Ducks, Turner & Hooch, The World According to Jeff Goldblum, The Mysterious Benedict Society, and Big Shot.

Look, we’re not going to kid ourselves and pretend that any of the aforementioned titles are going to lead to campaigns, petitions, and hashtags demanding they be prevented from falling into obscurity – which is one area where D+ definitely doesn’t have Netflix beat – but these properties still have at least a smattering of fans somewhere, who are now left devastated that they can’t find them anywhere on any streamer, unless of course somebody else swoops in to secure the distribution rights.

Netflix continues pissing people off, then, but at least you can still watch its canned efforts and think of what might have been.
