Warning: the following article contains major spoilers for Critical Role‘s campaign one.
The Legend of Vox Machina has been back with its second season for over two weeks now, and our ragtag group of protagonists is facing Tal’Dorei’s biggest threat so far. The Chroma Conclave is on a path of complete destruction, forcing Vox Machina to set out on a quest, seeking answers on how to defeat the mighty creatures. While they embark on this new journey together, the bonds between the main characters grow stronger, with Percival and Vex’alia seemingly getting ever closer.
During season one, viewers saw Vex become Percy’s greatest supporter, mostly acting as a voice of reason to keep him in check, and helping him work through his emotions regarding his family trauma. The half-elf slowly became an essential part of Percy’s storyline, and the two have their fair share of subtle moments throughout the season; enough to raise the viewers’ eyebrows. Even so, it all could be explained away as a very good solid friendship… if it wasn’t for season two.
In episode six of the show’s second season, Percy’s hidden feelings for Vex start to become a bit more obvious, as he’s seen blushing after giving her his jacket. It seems like the audience didn’t collectively imagine the chemistry between the pair, but for now, there’s no guarantee that Vex feels the same, or that this build-up will have the payoff it deserves.
Do Vex and Percy become a couple?
Fans of the series will be happy to know that Vex and Percy will get together eventually — if the adaptation remains faithful to its source material, that is. In Critical Role — the actual play web series this story originated from — the duo falls in love during their adventures with Vox Machina, and later they tie the knot in secrecy. Later down the road, Percy and Vex go on travels together, but make Whitestone their home base, returning to it from time to time. Unlike some other pairings in the series, these two have a happy ending, raising five children together.
Despite all this, it’s worth noting that the animated series is merely an adaptation, and according to Matthew Mercer — Critical Role‘s Dungeon Master — it has its own canon. This means that no matter how much of the source material is brought into the show, some things are bound to change, and only time will tell how that affects the characters.
Hopefully, Percy and Vex’s relationship will continue to develop during seasons two and three of the show. The Legend of Vox Machina is available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
