Doctor Who Star Says She Doesn’t Know If She’ll Do Another Season

Chatting on talk show This Morning, Doctor Who star Mandip Gill said she's unsure if she'll be in another season of the hit sci-fi series after this current one.

The Doctor is back, and in record-breaking style, it seems.

Yes, the Doctor Who season 11 premiere was a tremendous hit with fans and critics alike, going on to score the highest viewing figures for a season premiere in the history of the show with 10.9 million viewers, which also makes it the biggest drama launch of the year for the BBC. The second episode, meanwhile, performed quite well, too, and perhaps most importantly, finally unveiled the Thirteenth Doctor’s revamped TARDIS.

The numbers for this past Sunday’s outing still haven’t been revealed yet, but it’s clear that things are on the right track. Despite this, though, at least one star of the show isn’t so sure that there’ll be another season for her. Speaking on This Morning, Mandip Gill, who plays Yasmin, was asked about a potential follow-up and unfortunately, wouldn’t confirm anything.

“I don’t know if there’s another series – who knows where we end up at the end of this one, to be honest. There are three companions, but who knows where it goes?”

Meanwhile, she was also asked about a potential romance between Yasmin and Ryan, but again, she wouldn’t give a straight answer, saying:

“I’m not going to rule it out,” explained Mandip. “I’m never going to say never, at this point it’s just a little bit of fun and they’re just tying to find their feet in this new world. But there’s sometimes when she finds him really annoying like an annoying brother.”

Now, it’s highly likely that the actress is just playing coy here by saying that she doesn’t know if there’ll be another series. You’d have to imagine that the BBC would make her sign on for at least a couple of seasons as the Doctor’s new companion and wouldn’t let her go after just one. But then again, who knows?

This is a new era of Doctor Who, after all, and Yasmine may very well die at the end of this current run. It’s unlikely, sure, but it’s hard to say what showrunner Chris Chibnall and his team have planned for us right now. If one thing’s for certain, though, it’s that the incredible viewing figures we’ve seen so far make it clear that fans are enjoying Jodie Whittaker’s adventures through time and space.
