“He loved her…and she loved him.” *Cue a swell of Ramin Djawadi’s soothing score*
We are, of course, referring to the moment in Game of Thrones season 7 when Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen made love, oblivious to the fact that they’re actually descendants from the same family tree. Yeesh.
Thrones is no stranger to incestuous relationships (here’s looking at you, Jamie and Cersei), though Jon and Dany’s love scene took on a whole new meaning following their alliance in King’s Landing. So it’ll be fascinating to watch that power dynamic unfold come 2018.
But for all of the dramatic (and sexual!) tension bubbling on screen, Kit Harington and Emilia Clarke couldn’t help but laugh at the whole situation, as the latter revealed during a Vanity Fair cover story.
If you’ve known someone for six years, and they’re best friends with your girlfriend, and you’re best friends with them, there is something unnatural and strange about doing a love scene. We’ll end up kissing and then we’re just pissing ourselves with laughter because it’s so ridiculous.
Elsewhere on the GOT news cycle, filming is well underway on the show’s final season, and we recently caught wind of a potentially Earth-shaking showdown set to take place in the Dragonpit of King’s Landing. It’ll include all of the show’s power players, too, which only drives home the point that no one – and we really mean no one – is safe.
Once Westworld‘s second season is taken offline, HBO is expected to devote its full attention to Game of Thrones season 8 ahead of its own premiere in April of 2019. It’ll run for a total of six episodes, though the network has promised feature-length installments in order to give Thrones the finale it deserves.
