Tom Cavanagh May Leave The Flash After Crisis On Infinite Earths

Whenever any given television series lasts for a number of seasons, it's just expected that not every member of the principal cast will stick around forever. Heck, even Michael Rosebaum left Smallville after seven years - and he's still viewed by many as being the definitive Lex Luthor in live action. Well, as it turns out, The Flash could experience similar changes before 2019 expires.

Following recent reports of Carlos Valdes possibly leaving after season 5 (I could see this happening, taking his current story arc into account) and Danielle Panabaker also perhaps being in tow, we’re now learning that Tom Cavanagh won’t stick around for too much longer, either.

According to a source close to We Got This Covered, the actor could very well exit the series upon the conclusion to this fall’s “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover. Furthermore, the prime time extravaganza will “close the story on his character(s).” Not only that, but “we’ll probably see many versions of Wells working together during Crisis and it’s possible they may all die.” Suffice it to say, this’ll end the Reverse-Flash’s story for good if it ultimately pans out. After all, hasn’t the guy died enough times already?

If you were to ask me, this would make a lot of sense from a storytelling standpoint, not to mention paying off that newspaper article written by Iris West-Allen that’s been hanging over our heads since the pilot episode first aired. If you’ll recall, it teased the heroes of the Arrowverse uniting against the Reverse-Flash and other major threats.

Should you be current on your DC TV news, then you remember how major deaths have been confirmed for “Crisis on Infinite Earths” – and this would certainly be one of the biggest swings Greg Berlanti and company could take. Fans of the source material keep thinking Barry Allen will die, but I just don’t see the network’s largest draw biting the dust at this point. But when it comes to some of his crimefighting friends and subsequent foes, well, I doubt they’re all safe.

The Flash airs on Tuesday nights on The CW.
