Jack Smith defends his Trump investigations in a Senate hearing. Then he attends a Maryland concert and people notice what is on his shirt: ‘No Kings’

He got a shoutout from Dave Grohl, as well.

Jack Smith attended the Power to the People Festival in Columbia, Maryland, this past Saturday wearing a shirt that caught the attention of many attendees. The black shirt worn by the former special counsel featured the phrase No Kings, KATV reported. This appearance occurred just days after he provided testimony regarding his investigations into President Trump during a Senate hearing on Tuesday.

The festival was organized by Tom Morello, who is a guitarist for Rage Against the Machine and a socialist demonstrator. The event featured a variety of performers and speakers, including Bruce Springsteen.

During the concert, Springsteen delivered a speech criticizing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement before performing. He stated that ICE brought “death and terror to the streets of Minneapolis.” Springsteen also previously released a song this year that condemned President Trump and his “federal thugs” regarding their approach to illegal immigration following the death of Alex Pretti.

Dave Grohl, the lead singer of the Foo Fighters, acknowledged Smith during his performance

Grohl shouted, “This one goes out to my new friend Jack!” while transitioning into the song My Hero. Photos of Smith at the event were shared on X, which highlighted his attire. According to the festival website, the event aimed to unite artists, fans, activists, and community leaders to celebrate music and collective action. A portion of general ticket sales and all net proceeds from VIP tickets are slated for donation to VoteRiders, which is a left-leaning organization.

The concert appearance followed a contentious Senate hearing held on Tuesday. During this session, Senator Ted Cruz of Texas criticized Smith for his work as special counsel. Cruz described the investigations as “disgraceful” and labeled them the “most egregious abuse of power in the history of the Department of Justice.” He further alleged that Smith conducted a “witch hunt” against President Trump and other Republicans to target political enemies.

Cruz told Smith, “Let me say congratulations, because you have succeeded where Richard Nixon failed, which is weaponizing the Department of Justice to go after your political opponents. Congratulations.”

Smith defended his record throughout the hearing. He oversaw two indictments against President Trump during his time as special counsel. One indictment involved the alleged mishandling of classified documents, while the other concerned alleged efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

Smith emphasized the integrity of his work while addressing the committee. He told the senators, “Our investigation developed proof beyond a reasonable doubt that President Trump engaged in serious crimes against our nation.” Smith added, “If asked whether to prosecute a former president today based on the same facts, I would do so regardless of whether that president was a Republican or a Democrat.”
