Well, Stephen Amell did promise us we’d be getting a nice little Arrowverse surprise this week, now didn’t he?
Yes, the unofficial ambassador of the franchise is back on social media again, teasing us with what to expect from this year’s crossover which will bring together the casts of Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl for a sure to be epic event. And aside from introducing the world to Ruby Rose’s Batwoman, it seems there’s something else in store that’ll get people talking as well.
Taking to Twitter today, Amell Tweeted out the below photo which shows Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman donning the iconic black suit from the comics. There’s no mention of why he’s in this particular costume, but given the nature of the crossover and that it’s been titled “Elseworlds,” it’s not like there’s any shortage of possibilities for why the Man of Steel has decided to slip into this outfit.
For those unfamiliar with Elseworlds, it’s a nod to DC’s line of comics consisting of fan favorites such as Batman: Gotham by Gaslight, Superman: Red Son and Kingdom Come, each of which provided alternate takes on some of the company’s most iconic heroes. It’s pretty much been replaced by the new Black Label imprint, but the legacy lives on through television.
Aside from Superman and Batwoman though, there’s going to be a lot of other interesting things going on in this year’s crossover, as we already know that Elizabeth Tulloch will play opposite Hoechlin as Lois Lane, and Cassandra Jean Amell has been cast as Nora Fries, wife of Mr. Freeze. And if that weren’t enough, Jeremy Davies has jumped aboard as Arkham Asylum’s Dr. John Deegan, who seems to be placed in a villainous role.
In truth, we still don’t know how to assemble this puzzle and all of the intriguing pieces that make it up, but this new photo of Superman in black has only got us that much more excited for the Arrowverse crossover, which begins on Sunday, December 9 with The Flash, continues on Monday, December 10 with Arrow, and wraps up on Tuesday, December 11 with Supergirl.
