Nowadays, we're spoiled for choice when it comes to superhero TV. There's generally a whole bunch of both Marvel and DC TV series on air at all times, with just about all of them enjoying critical acclaim and ardent fanbases. But which show could be crowned the most popular amongst viewers in 2018? Well, in a result that's both a little surprising but also not, the facts say that The Flash nabs the top spot.

ScreenRant spoke to Parrot Analytics, a data science company that measures audience’s interest in television content by assessing brand engagement online. As SR puts it, Parrot build up a cohesive picture of viewers’ “demand, engagement and viewership” by examining “everything from global file-sharing and peer-to-peer traffic to social media activity.”

The result is a list of the 20 most popular superhero TV series in 2018. Overall, it consists of 11 DC shows (some contemporary, some classic) and 9 from Marvel. Interestingly, the top 10 is 80% DC. So, while Marvel are generally considered to beat the Distinguished Competition on the big screen, it looks like DC own the small one.

Check out the full list below:

20. Smallville

19. Krypton

18. Runaways

17. The Punisher

16. Luke Cage

15. The Gifted

14. Teen Titans GO!

13. Jessica Jones

12. Cloak & Dagger

11. Legion

10. Black Lightning

9. Teen Titans

8. Daredevil

7. Legends Of Tomorrow

6. Gotham.

5. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D

4. Arrow

3. Supergirl

2. Titans

1. The Flash.

I said above that it was slightly surprising that The Flash finds itself in first place, as season 4 and 5 of the Scarlet Speedster’s series have been met with some mixed reactions from fans. The latest run is definitely going down warmer than 4, though, and clearly audiences still love watching Barry Allen’s adventures. In fact, the Arrowverse as a whole seems healthier than ever, with all five of The CW DC series sitting in the top 10.

Alternatively, Netflix’s Marvel output is not as impressive. Daredevil makes it in at number 8 while Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and The Punisher fill out the teen positions. And poor Iron Fist isn’t even on the list at all. This fits in with previous analysis, though, which stated that audiences were losing interest in the Defendersverse.

Tell us, what do you think of this list? Is The Flash the best superhero show on the airwaves? Have your say in the comments section down below.
