HBO has rolled out the brooding Game of Thrones season 7 trailer (part production montage, part enticing teaser) to mark the start of filming. To counter all the dramatic reflection and foreshadowing, there’s also the blooper reel for season 6, which acts as a nice tonic to all of the Westerosi drama.

Though fans are still reeling from the barnstorming conclusion to season 6, HBO’s flagship is in attendance at the ongoing San Diego Comic-Con, where David Benioff and D.B. Weiss were at hand to solicit questions on the show’s future – including who may or may not seize the Iron Throne.

Set to return a little later than usual in 2017 with a truncated, seven-episode season, the teaser below will likely be the first and final season 7 teaser we see for some time yet.

Enlisting the likes of Mark Mylod, Jeremy Podeswa, Matt Shakman and Alan Taylor to helm episodes of Game of Thrones season 7, HBO’s president of programming Casey Bloys reflected the scheduling change in an official post.

“Now that winter has arrived on ‘Game of Thrones,’ executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss felt that the storylines of the next season would be better served by starting production a little later than usual, when the weather is changing. Instead of the show’s traditional spring debut, we’re moving the debut to summer to accommodate the shooting schedule.”

Game of Thrones returns for a seven-episode season in the summer of 2017.
