Keiynan Lonsdale Explains Why He’s Leaving Legends Of Tomorrow

x

Legends of Tomorrow fans recently learned some crushing news: Wally West will be leaving the show as a regular after the season 4 premiere. After a couple of years of being underused on The FlashLegends felt like the perfect place for Kid Flash to stretch his legs without falling under Barry Allen’s shadow and he worked well with the rest of the Waverider crew. All things considered, then, we’ll be sad to see the character go.

It turns out, though, that the reason why actor Keiynan Lonsdale’s vacating the Waverider time ship is an understandable one. If you follow the Aussie on social media, you’ll know that he’s gone on an important personal journey over the past year, including coming out as queer last May. In a post on his Twitter account, Lonsdale explained that his leaving Legends is just part of him rethinking his direction in life.

Lonsdale was also keen to promise that, just because he’ll no longer be a regular on Legends, that doesn’t mean we’ve seen the last of Wally West in the Arrowverse. “It’s definitely not a goodbye or “see ya never” situation,” he told his followers. “Cause Wally will still be round when you need him the most! It’s just that it won’t be full-time anymore.”

When Kid Flash’s exit from Legends of Tomorrow was revealed, some fans theorized that it meant that he was returning to The Flash for season 5. Or, and here’s a slightly more outlandish idea, that he was crossing over to the DC Universe streaming service to star in the Titans TV series. However, we can now rule those notions out, as Lonsdale has told us that he’s leaving for personal reasons. Which, once again, is perfectly understandable.
