Latest Marvel News: An MCU icon hits back at ‘Secret Invasion’s biggest shock as Sony might’ve just killed an expansion of the ‘Spider-Verse’

No, not that biggest shock, the other one.

Secret Invasion is already inspiring a lot of strong reactions from the fans, but not entirely for the right reasons. In fact, it’s stirring up such a controversy that even a certain Marvel icon has revealed they stand with the dissenters on this one. Meanwhile, Sony’s Spider-Man universe may have shot itself in the foot yet again as the franchise’s next movie to go before the cameras has been put on hold, when it would’ve delivered something fans have been waiting for.

Thanks to a combination of various delays and the writers’ strike, El Muerto won’t be making its scheduled January 2024 release date — *pretends to be shocked* — after all, and Sony has officially pulled it from its next-year slate. Ironically, in the wake of that news, we’re discovering why we should’ve actually been excited for the Bad Bunny vehicle. It turns out one voice actor from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was due to reprise their popular villain in live-action in the movie, which would’ve marked the first time a Spider-Verse character had jumped out of animation. With any luck, then, El Muerto will not be, um, muerto for long.

Secret Invasion‘s decision to have an A.I.-generated opening credits sequence has maybe caused more of an online ruckus than Marvel expected. Although the studio has maintained that no jobs were lost in the decision, folks are still up in arms over what they’re viewing as a shift away from, you know, actual human-made art in the world’s biggest franchise. One of those who’ve echoed this viewpoint is Wilson Fisk himself, Vincent D’Onofrio. Ever the gentleman, the Kingpin star didn’t name names, but an impassioned post about the importance of human creativity coming in the wake of Secret Invasion‘s premiere says it all.

The Marvel community was shocked by the recent sexual assault allegations against Black Panther: Wakanda Forever actor Tenoch Huerta, especially coming as they did so soon after similar charges were made against MCU co-star Jonathan Majors. In the latest development in the Huerta situation, the Mexican actor has dropped out of an upcoming Netflix movie in the face of these allegations. Much as there is speculation over if Majors will remain on as Kang the Conqueror, it’s now under question if Huerta will be invited back as Namor the Sub-Mariner for future films, as was surely originally the case. Huerta denies the allegations as “false” and is dedicated to clearing his name.

More Marvel updates are never far away, so keep your eyes peeled.
