Serialized content based on dormant movie franchises is a trend that may be running amok, but what of TV shows inspired by video games? Well, according to Deadline, Endemol Shine Studios has nabbed the rights for a live-action series based on Mirror’s Edge, the futuristic sci-fi franchise developed by DICE.

Blending themes of totalitarianism with bleeding-edge graphics, the company is hoping to spin out a female-driven action series based on the blistering video game, which follows an underground group of Runners who carve out a life in the City of Glass as couriers, evading oppressive security and governmental forces as they leap, dive and wall-run across the sterile landscape.

At the heart of the tale is Faith, a skilled Runner whose sister is framed for a murder she didn’t commit, spawning a plot involving sibling bonds and government conspiracies.

In response to the announcement, Sharon Hall, President of Endemol Shine Studios, doubled down on the USP of Mirror’s Edge, stating that, “we clearly see Mirror’s Edge as a franchise for the global TV audience. It has a strong female protagonist, a wildly rabid fan base and a worldwide brand that Electronic Arts and EA DICE have done an amazing job establishing.”

As for the studio’s source material, Mirror’s Edge Catalyst has been earmarked for launch across PS4, Xbox One and PC on June 7 in the States. To sate your appetite for Faith’s long-awaited return, have a gander at the sequel’s launch trailer from earlier today.
