Netflix’s endless canceling parade might have already left the fate of an upcoming horror series up in the air

Every series is uncertain now.

As the unfortunate (but completely expected) news of Lockwood & Co. being the latest victim of Netflix’s canceling parade, it’s becoming increasingly obvious that any show that isn’t Stranger Things, Bridgerton, or Wednesday is in serious jeopardy. And while the streaming giant has specifically focused on the cancellation of a variety of fantasy shows thus far, it only feels like the inevitable is coming in regards to Netflix turning its attention towards an upcoming horror series.

Of course, we’re talking about The Fall of the House of Usher, which is set to debut on the service at some point later this year. The upcoming miniseries is based on a series of short stories from renowned poet Edgar Allen Poe, and is set to be helmed by The Haunting showrunner Mike Flanagan. However, a glaring amount of uncertainties has undoubtedly left the fate of the project completely up in the air.

Considering Flanagan’s troubled past with the streaming service, which effectively resulted in the horror filmmaker jumping from Netflix to Prime Video last year, it certainly begs the question as to whether or not Netflix has serious plans to keep the greenlight on the series. But while Netflix could still pull the trigger on the show, there’s simply no telling if it will end up being canceled after one season anyway.

It’s truly hard to discount this possibility, especially with Netflix taking the low road last December and canceling Flanagan’s The Midnight Club after news was confirmed that he’d left for Prime Video in a fresh-faced deal. Looking back at it now, it was probably the best decision for him.
