All across his roles in The Walking Dead, The Wolf of Wall Street and, more recently, David Ayer’s Fury, Jon Bernthal brought a raw intensity to screens big and small, resulting in a string of characters you daren’t take your eyes off.

Imagine our excitement, then, that the actor is ready to lay siege to Hell’s Kitchen as Frank Castle. That’s right, Daredevil season 2 is almost upon us, and on the heels of the full trailer, Empire (via CBM) has premiered a pair of new images that showcase a brooding, battle-ready version of the Punisher.

Describing himself as a more thorough and merciless spawn of Daredevil himself – “I think you’re a half-measure” – Bernthal’s Frank Castle is a force to be reckoned with, and before crossing paths with Marvel’s Man Without Fear, he’ll be spending his quiet time tracking the criminal gangs of NYC as a hardened vigilante.

What happens when they do cross paths? Well, it’s a safe bet that Charlie Cox’s lawyer-by-day, crime-fighter-by-night will be left facing a profound moral conundrum after witnessing the Punisher’s reign of terror, though considering that the two aren’t all that different – one is essentially a warped version of the other – early reports have teased the pair could temporarily cast aside moral differences to battle a common enemy at some point in season 2. It’s more a means to an end than the start of a new super team, but the dynamic between the two will give Bernthal – and Cox – plenty of dramatic material to chew on.

Daredevil season 2 will premiere exclusively on Netflix come March 18. In the meantime, you can check in with Karen Page and Foggy Nelson – Matt Murdock’s trusted allies – with last week’s promotional teasers.
