The CW has released the first official images from the upcoming fifth season of Arrow, and they’ve left fans with a lot to talk about. For starters, we get our first proper look at the villainous Prometheus, a mysterious archer who shares a name with Justice League villain from the DC Comics but is actually an original creation. Even more intriguing than that though is what appears to be a shot of Chad L. Coleman’s Tobias Church holding Oliver Queen – now mayor of Star City – hostage for reasons unknown.
We also get to see the return of a familiar face in the form of Anatoly Knyazev (David Nykl) in Arrow season five’s Russia set flashbacks. Thankfully, executive producer Marc Guggenheim has revealed that this year will be the last time the series incorporates this storytelling device on a regular basis, as we learn what brought Oliver back to Star City as a vigilante.
After the disappointing fourth season, the hope is that the fifth will improve on what’s come before. The signs are so far pointing to that being the case, but it will be interesting to see how things develop in the series when Arrow returns to The CW on October 12th.
