Wielding a barbed-wire-wrapped baseball bat and an unflinching attitude that would make even the Governor wince in his boots, Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and his marauding band of psychopaths are bound for The Walking Dead season 6.
Naturally, introducing such a monumental character from Robert Kirkman’s comic book series will shake up the core group lead by Andrew Lincoln’s gun-toting Rick Grimes, and though AMC has ensured much of the story beats have remained in the dark as the show’s anticipated return creeps closer and closer, Daryl Dixon himself, Norman Reedus, took time to speak to Empire about the inevitable moment when those two paths cross.
We already know Kirkman’s view on bringing the character of Negan to the small screen – “like an atomic bomb” – but Reedus was slightly more coy, teasing that there will be a lot of pent-up tension going into the second half of season 6.
“There’s going to be a fight. I won’t tell you who, when and where, but I can promise you a fight. All of us are about to clash with that motherfucker. There’s a lot of turmoil in the second half of Season 6.”
Without question, the introduction of Negan is something long-time fans of both AMC’s series and Kirkman’s original comics have lobbied for for quite some time. Couple this with the fact that The Walking Dead has been left lacking a scenery-chewing antagonist since the Governor met his maker and you have a very exciting TWD encounter looming on the horizon.
Negan and his band of Saviours are primed to march forth into The Walking Dead season 6 when AMC’s prized, flesh-munching asset returns on Sunday, February 14.
