The premiere of the new season of Succession has immediately proven to be highly meme-worthy, especially with regard to two specific characters, who fans are now clamoring to see get their own spin-off show.
The shenanigans of Tom Wambsgans and side-kick Greg Hirsch generated a veritable deluge of memes inspired by their nickname, The Disgusting Brothers.
The monicker came about after Cousin Greg told Tom about the amorous antics he got up to with Bridget in a private room in Logan Roy’s home. Tom deceives Greg into believing that Logan has installed surveillance cameras throughout his residence and urges him to tell the Roy family patriarch about the incident. Greg promptly complies and returns to Tom to announce that Logan called him “disgusting.”
Fans were captivated by the concept of a Tom and Greg spinoff series called The Disgusting Brothers.
Some outlined a pitch for a series that would explore the dysfunctional duo’s high amoral jinks.
With any luck, Succession creator Jesse Armstrong is testing the waters and gauging fans’ interest in the Tom and Greg storyline before making any final decisions. Suffice it to say that the show has captured an aura of Greek tragedy in the cold-hearted and manipulative relationships Logan Roy has with his children. His predatory nature has corrupted his family and adjacent people on the periphery, like Tom and Greg. In a family devoid of love and trust, there is no doubt that the eventual transfer of power will be apocalyptic.
The people have spoken. Hopefully, HBO is taking notes.
