New Promo For The Flash Teases Big Changes For Nora

Based on the cliffhanger to last month's "What's Past is Prologue" alone, it's only fair to assume that the Nora West-Allen-Eobard Thawne dynamic will factor heavily into season 5B. I don't know about you, but I can't wait to learn the full details of their collusion, and how Thawne's manipulation of the young heroine factors into what is undoubtedly a grand scheme of his.

Having fired off those points, it’s no surprise this element was given focus in the latest trailer teasing what’s to come upon The Flash‘s return. Seen at the top of this article, the new footage presented offers us some light-hearted moments shared by Barry and Nora – only to tear the rug out from under us by revealing she’ll be paralyzed by Cicada.

Right now, my gut tells me the Nora-Thawne business will unfold slowly, with the Cicada situation playing out more in the immediate future. And as you can see, the current big bad crippling the Scarlet Speedster’s daughter has him standing dangerously close to the abyss. I guess it’s fortunate for him that he has Iris to pull him back. She is his “lightning rod,” after all.

But seeing as how Nora’s a speedster and heals at a faster rate, it wouldn’t make sense for her to be paralyzed for too long. If you’ll remember, Zoom broke Barry’s back during season 2, and he was back on his feet given time. To not apply that logic this time around would be downright contradictory – unless Nora is somehow rendered completely powerless.

For more on the midseason premiere, “The Flash & The Furious,” be sure to check out the official synopsis:

CAITLIN AND CISCO EMABRK ON A NEW JOURNEY – While Nora (Jessica Parker Kennedy) grapples with the revelation that Thawne (Tom Cavanagh) killed her grandmother, Team Flash must stop the formidable team-up of a newly sprung from jail Weather Witch (guest star Reina Hardesty) and Silver Ghost (guest star Gabrielle Walsh), a new meta-tech villain who can control engines and motorized technology. Meanwhile, Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) and Cisco (Carlos Valdes) discuss creating a meta-human cure. David McWhirter directed the episode written by Kelly Wheeler & Sterling Gates (#510).

The Flash returns with new episodes on Tuesday, January 15th on The CW.
