‘Secret Invasion’ episode 2 primes us for an MCU showdown between two Oscar and Emmy-winning icons

"You're in no shape for this fight that lies before us, old friend."

With the debut of Marvel’s Secret Invasion, a match made in thespian heaven seems to be waiting in the wings of the MCU. That is because the show introduced us to the Oscar-winning Olivia Coleman, with her role as the MI6 agent Sonya Falsworth. Since the superhero-filled universe is already the home of the Emmy-winning Julia Louis-Dreyfus, with her Black Panther: Wakanda Forever character Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, we can’t wait for the inevitable showdown between the two characters.

Valentina’s character is pretty similar to Sonya, except she works for the U.S. CIA and is in charge of that country’s more clandestine activities, as we have seen in both Wakanda Forever and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. Valentina will also be a major player in the upcoming 2024 film Thunderbolts. As some Marvel fans pointed out on the r/MarvelStudios subreddit, the two characters facing off would be a battle for the ages.

Given the morally gray — at best — nature of both characters, as the latest episode of Secret Invasion can attest in Sonya’s case, such a rivalry would surely do very little to progress humanity forward, another Reddit user pointed out.

In 2019, Colman won the Academy Award for Best Actress in a leading role for the film The Favourite. As for Louis-Dreyfus, she proved to have a fertile career far beyond the scope of Seinfeld in the ‘90s by snagging half a dozen Emmy wins for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for the HBO show Veep throughout the 2010s.

Even if we never see Colman and Louis-Dreyfus share the screen in the MCU — which, c’mon, it’s gonna happen — there’s little doubt that Marvel Studios can count both actresses as two of the finest talents in their roster.
