Set photos reveal new look at a returning Netflix fantasy favorite that took 4 agonizing months to land a renewal

To say it felt longer would be underselling it.

TUDUM may have come and gone to leave Shadow and Bone fans devastated that the series wasn’t officially renewed for a third season, but if there’s one Netflix bedfellow that can give them hope, then it’s The Sandman.

The adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s classic comic book finally escaped decades in development hell to land on streaming last summer, where it eventually went on to become one of the biggest on-demand shows of the year. However, the platform wasn’t exactly quick to pull the trigger on more episodes, with audiences left sweating for months.

The Sandman premiered on August 5, but it wouldn’t be until November 3 that it was guaranteed a renewal. Of course, between those two points there was plenty of doom and gloom, but not long after the first set photos began making their way online, even more have arrived; and this time there’s even a glimpse of Tom Sturridge’s Dream.

Four months is a quite frankly preposterous amount of time for Netflix to keep its viewers in the dark, but at least The Sandman emerged from the dark tunnel and into a brave new era of fresh content. Plenty of other fantasies haven’t been anywhere near as lucky, so it was a resounding victory for the fandom.

With Dead Boy Detectives also having been acquired from Warner Bros., there could even be a Gaiman universe brewing, but the fact The Sandman has survived Netflix’s ongoing purge is more than enough for those who spent their time between August and November of 2022 chewing their fingernails right down to the cuticle.
