So far, we’ve had glimpses of his Spock in promos and seen him – complete with beard – in photos, but this new teaser for Discovery season 2 gives us our first lines delivered by Peck in character. Well, line. Well, one single word. But hey, it’s a start.

Check out the 30-second teaser below:

The promo opens with the Discovery getting caught in an asteroid field, which ruptures the ship’s hull and causes havoc for the crew inside. Another brief clip shows Sonequa Martin-Green’s Michael Burnham and Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount, also joining the show this year) braving the asteroids in pod-like vehicles.

The two moments that fans will probably be most interested in, however, are the glimpses we get of Spock. For starters, he looks to have had enough of hanging around in the medical bay and so unleashes a Vulcan nerve pinch on an unfortunate medic. The teaser then ends on a lighter moment as Pike inquires as to whether his fellow Enterprise crew member is smiling. Spock simply replies: “Yes.”

We’ve already been told that season 2 will fill in a vital gap in Spock’s personal evolution. As the show is set a decade before The Original SeriesDiscovery will explore how and why the character changes between the pilot episode “The Cage” and TOS and from what we understand, he’ll be aiding the Discovery team in investigating the strange red bursts that are appearing across the cosmos.

Be sure to catch Star Trek: Discovery when it returns to CBS All Access on January 17th.
