Arrow season 8

Stephen Amell Was The One Who Came Up With Arrow’s Ending

With Arrow's ultimate conclusion set to arrive in the not too distant future, I'm sure we could speculate from now until then and still not correctly guess how the series ends. Then again, some clever viewers could be right on the money, but my gut says the producers are going to throw quite the curveball.

Recently, TV Guide caught up with actors Stephen Amell and David Ramsey to discuss what’ll go down in the series finale. According to Ramsey, he knows how things will end for his character, John Diggle. In so many words, he says his sendoff will be appropriate, but fingers remain crossed for a Green Lantern ring coming his way.

Amell, meanwhile, revealed that he actually cooked up Oliver Queen’s endgame himself, revealing:

“It’s what I want, I pitched it for a very long time. It’s what I want, but concurrently, like, that doesn’t mean that there aren’t surprises along the way.”

Yeah, I’d say surprises are inevitable. It wasn’t that long ago when consulting producer Marc Guggenheim confessed that he had a conclusion of his own in mind but wasn’t sure of whether it can be filmed. I have no idea if the logistical hurdles to be jumped involve landing a certain guest star, securing a specific location, a complicated visual effects shot, or a combination of those three, but I’m intrigued nonetheless. I’m inclined to think Amell’s pitch has to do with Ollie himself, whereas Guggenheim’s vision pertains to the series as a whole, if that makes sense.

It’s also worth noting that Amell spoke of something having to do with the “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover that’s “rad,” but not much in the way of context was given. I mean, the crossover itself is likely where the Emerald Archer bites the dust, though it’s obvious these guys can’t say too much before showtime.

Arrow returns with new episodes on Tuesday, October 15th on The CW. In the meantime, be sure to check out our review for season 7’s Blu-ray set.
