‘Succession’ is almost over and the trailer for its finale is here

Who will take the reigns of Waystar Royco? The new trailer for the series finale episode of 'Succession' has arrived, with all the intrigue you could hope for.

Succession is inching ever closer to its conclusion and the trailer for its finale episode has finally arrived. Set to air on May 28, the last episode of the fourth and final season is titled With Open Eyes and judging by its teaser, it’s sure to be filled with all the chaotic Roy family dynamics fans have come to know and love.

Excerpts from the trailer include the fallout from the climactic fight between Shiobhan (Sarah Snook) and Tom (Matthew Macfadyen), the imminent Waystar-Gojo merger, and the question mark over who will officially succeed Logan Roy (Brian Cox) following his death. Watch the trailer for the series finale episode of Succession below.

Amping up the nostalgia, the trailer includes snippets of the home video footage that comprises Succession’s title sequence, as well as a more somber take on composer Nicholas Britell’s now-infamous piano theme song. HBO’s official logline for season four, episode ten reads: “Before the final board vote on the Waystar-GoJo deal, Kendall and Shiv try to shore up their opposing interests…and get a fix on the whereabouts of a physically and emotionally bruised Roman.”

The last instalment of Succession will be a supersized episode, longer than the usual episode runtime of 60 minutes. As the series draws to a close, much focus has been paid to Succession’s Emmys contention, with fans vehemently naming Roman Roy actor Kieran Culkin as a frontrunner in the Lead Actor category. Sarah Snook has competed in the Supporting Actress category, while Macfadyen won Outstanding Supporting Actor last year for his portrayal of Tom.

Earlier this year, Succession showrunner Jesse Armstrong teased that while the series is ending, there’s still room for potential spin-offs if fans remain invested enough in the Roy family. “Maybe there’s another part of this world we could come back to if there was an appetite,” Armstrong said. “There could be something else in an allied world, or allied characters, or some of the same characters.”
