Supergirl’s Tyler Hoechlin Doesn’t Know If He’ll Return To The Arrowverse

For those of you who watched Supergirl's first season on CBS, you should remember how Superman himself was shown only in silhouette. Or, oddly enough, we'd see his boots while the rest of his unconscious body extended out of frame. Yes, it was both weird and frustrating.

Fortunately, that changed when the show moved to The CW and, upon the start of its sophomore year, it introduced Tyler Hoechlin as the Man of Steel. In my eyes, he’s done a fine job of embodying the good-natured qualities of the timeless icon. Basically, he’s a Superman you could meet on the street and not be afraid to shake his hand.

For the most part, this iteration of Big Blue has popped up sporadically, most recently during last fall’s “Elseworlds” crossover. And though he’s now spending time off planet, fans remain hopeful that he’ll resurface during “Crisis on Infinite Earths.”

Still, it remains unclear if a comeback is in the cards, as Hoechlin said the following at MCM London Comic Con:

“I don’t know, I really don’t know. I know there’s a big crossover coming up, so I’ve got my fingers crossed that we’ll figure something out, so I hope to see these guys again.”

From the sound of it, Tyler is game for such a thing and there’s an opening in his schedule, but it’s really up to the producers. But in my view, it’d be quite strange to adapt “Crisis on Infinite Earths” in any form without having Superman showing up.

Plus, let’s not forget Hoechlin also recently expressing his desire to face Jon Cryer’s Lex Luthor in battle, which is something I’d certainly welcome because the Two and a Half Men alum has proven spectacular in his respective role. And since the Monitor absconded with his dead body during the closing moments of “The Quest for Peace,” then maybe we’ll see the big smackdown during “Crisis” after all.

Supergirl returns for its fifth season on Sunday nights this fall on The CW.
