It’s going on three years since we last caught wind of The Lost Boys TV series, but it seems the planned reboot has finally found a home at The CW.

Word comes to us by way of Deadline, confirming that The CW has now pulled a U-turn and officially committed to a pilot episode of The Lost Boys – the network had previously turned down the opportunity to pick up the TV adaptation back in 2016, though it seems everyone’s favorite teenage vampires are about to have their time in the sun. Metaphorically speaking, of course.

The original 1987 Warner Bros horror-comedy flick has reportedly been given a facelift by writer Heather Mitchell (Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy), whose draft seemingly got “everyone excited” and essentially pumped new blood into the long-dormant project. The result? A pilot order from The CW, while The Lost Boys is perhaps best described as so:

Welcome to sunny seaside Santa Carla, home to a beautiful boardwalk, all the cotton candy you can eat…and a secret underworld of vampires. After the sudden death of their father, two brothers move to Santa Carla with their mother, who hopes to start anew in the town where she grew up. But the brothers find themselves drawn deeper and deeper into the seductive world of Santa Carla’s eternally beautiful and youthful undead.

As Deadline points out, while Rob Thomas was originally attached to the project three years ago, he’s since become tied up with the Veronica Mars reboot over on Hulu. But the show must go on, and it seems The Lost Boys have finally found their way home.

It’s been a long time coming for the classic vampire project, and with The CW already locking down the likes of Riverdale and Jane the Virgin, it’s heartening to know that, even after all these years, The Lost Boys is still very much a part of the horror scene.
