The Walking Dead’s Latest Promo May Be Teasing Rick’s Death

AMC's latest promo for The Walking Dead season 9 may be teasing Rick's shocking demise – or, at least, a very, very close call.

The Walking Dead and Rick Grimes are about to get their separate ways, meaning the entire Internet is collectively holding its breath in anticipation of October 7th.

That’s the day in which AMC plans to drop season 9 of The Walking Dead, and with it, a whole truckload of intense zombie drama. Not that the fanbase would have it any other way.

But with the show’s ninth season, there’s a real sense that The Walking Dead is about to change beyond recognition, given how Andrew Lincoln and Lauren Cohan (Maggie Rhee) are headed for the exit door. The exact circumstances of each departure are being kept firmly under lock and key, safely stowed away inside the AMC vaults, but according to ComicBook.com, the latest teaser trailer for The Walking Dead season 9 may have already revealed Rick’s demise.

Hear us out.

As you’ll be able to see from the promo above, Rick Grimes is dangerously close to an incoming walker, and appears to almost surrender himself to the inevitable. Chances are this is just clever editing on AMC’s part, as the impending departure of Andrew Lincoln has cranked up the tension quite considerably.

Still, it’s not outside the realm of possibility that Rick would simply leave himself vulnerable to the zombie threat. This is, after all, a man who has lost both his wife and only son to the undead virus, and there’s really only so much a person can take before they’re reduced to a shell of their former self. Perhaps this is Andrew Lincoln’s former leader fast approaching the end of his tether? Time will tell.

The Walking Dead season 9 will return to our screens on October 7th, and only then will we know the full extent of Rick’s finale (and Maggie’s, too!).
