That’s the big question currently looming over Lauren Cohan’s future on The Walking Dead – or lack thereof – as The Hollywood Reporter brings word that all of the show’s major players have re-signed for the recently-announced ninth season…expect Cohan.

So while the likes of Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Danai Gurira (Black Panther) and Jeffrey Dean Morgan have all put pen to paper – ditto for Melissa McBride, Alanna Masterson, Josh McDermitt, Christian Serratos, Seth Gilliam and Ross Marquand – the standoff between Lauren Cohan and the Powers That Be over at AMC continues to fester.

Sources close to the situation indicate that Cohan was unhappy with the offer that AMC put on the table, and the fact that the actress is now committed to the ABC pilot Whiskey Cavalier has only raised more cause for concern.

To his credit, former showrunner and long-time executive producer, Scott Gimple, is “pretty positive” that Cohan and AMC will reach an agreement, thereby ensuring that Maggie Rhee is still a part of The Walking Dead season 9…and beyond.

These things do happen. We’ve had people do other shows and other gigantic movies that take America by storm. We’re figuring it out with each other and trying to let people be able to do other things and stick around. I shan’t even entertain the thought. We’re talking; I’m pretty positive. We’re figuring it out. The timing could work well, so all good.

As of this writing, Lauren Cohan’s Walking Dead contract has expired, and though Maggie is still alive and keeping in the comics, it’s looking increasingly likely that her time on the AMC zombie drama is about to be cut short. More on this story as it develops.
