‘There was a huge amount of invention and specificity’: The MCU’s Jonathan Majors love-in continues ahead of his looming court date

Such public praise could backfire in a matter of days.

Unless it ends up being rescheduled yet again, Jonathan Majors is due in court this week to face charges of misdemeanor assault, just days after he made his highly-publicized return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the most recent episode of Loki.

The actor’s career may have taken a massive hit due to the negative publicity, but audiences were falling over themselves to praise his performance as Kang the Conqueror variant Victor Timely, with several of the key creatives reiterating there was never any danger of his presence being minimized, recast, or reshot.

They’ve even become some of the only Marvel-adjacent figures to publicly comment on his arrest, but should things end up going against him in the courtroom, then lavishing him with a glowing appraisal has the potential to age like milk. Either way, director Kasra Farahani was effusive of his contributions to Timely’s debut in an interview with ScreenRant, noting how involved he was in the creative process.

“Absolutely. There was a huge amount of invention and specificity that Jonathan brought to building out this role. The exact nature of his quirkiness, the embodiment of someone who is at once so brilliant that they’re operating seven levels above normal people, but then the awkwardness that comes as a result of that in terms of how they interact on a more basic level. And the combination of confidence in his brilliance and his technical knowledge, but sort of stammering and kind of shyness around Renslayer, because of the situation maybe he hasn’t found himself in recently.”

It was certainly a memorable performance, but come the end of the week, all eyes will be focused on Majors outside of the MCU as he takes the stand for what could be a make-or-break moment.
