Promo For Next Week’s Walking Dead Teases More Conflict With The Whisperers

The war with the Whisperers is now in full swing. Tonight's episode of The Walking Dead season 9 followed on from last Sunday's cliffhanger in which Alpha and her creepy clan came to retrieve her daughter Lydia from the good guys. Of course, they didn't hand the girl back to her murderous mother and so, as Alpha predicted, there was conflict.

Next week, the threat will increase as new problems arise. Just take a look at the promo for season 9’s twelfth episode, titled “Guardians,” above and see for yourself. And while you’re at it, make sure to read the synopsis for the installment below which teases that cracks will start to appear in one community – most likely Alexandria – just when they need to stay united.

“While one community struggles to ease tensions that threaten to divide from within, the true nature of another group comes into focus; a mission to rescue a friend has deadly consequences.”

The problems for Alexandria have been coming for a long time, as Michonne’s kept the safe zone isolated from the other communities ever since Rick Grimes “died” – or was piloted away in a helicopter, as the case may be. Michonne’s stance likely wasn’t helped by whatever the story is behind those X-shaped scars that she and Daryl have, either. We’ve been promised that this mystery will be cleared up this season, so will next week be the episode where we find out? Maybe.

Meanwhile, “Guardians” will also mark the first appearance of Beta on the show, Alpha’s right-hand man as played by Sons of Anarchy’s Ryan Hurst. We’ve gotten glimpses of him in the promos for the second half of the season but up until now, he hasn’t made himself known. If the TV character follows a path that’s anything at all like the comics though, viewers should watch out for him as we’d imagine he’ll be playing a major role over the next couple of seasons.

Be sure to catch The Walking Dead 9×12 “Guardians” next Sunday, March 3rd on AMC.
