Andrew Lincoln Returns To The Walking Dead Set In New BTS Photo

Andrew Lincoln might have left The Walking Dead in the fifth episode of season 9, but he's not done with the zombie-ridden world for good. For one, the actor is set to reprise his role as Rick Grimes in his own movie trilogy, which will follow on from where we last saw him - being taken away from Alexandria by Jadis/Anne in a helicopter.

Andrew Lincoln might have left The Walking Dead in the fifth episode of season 9, but he’s not done with the zombie-ridden world for good. For one, the actor’s set to reprise his role as Rick Grimes in his own movie trilogy, which will follow on from where we last saw him, being taken away from Alexandria by Jadis/Anne in a helicopter.

Before we get to those, however, Lincoln has another engagement with TWD to come. Once he left the show, the star promised that he’d be returning in season 10 to direct an episode of the series. He explained at the time that, to prepare for the job, he’d be coming back to the set in Atlanta at some point this season in order to shadow a director, and it looks like Lincoln’s finally made good on that promise.

Down below you’ll see a new BTS photo from The Walking Dead‘s official Twitter account that shows the former lead of the series on set. “Look who was on set of last week’s #WalkingDead,” reads the caption. Naturally, the photo’s excited fans, who’ve liked the tweet well over 2,000 times since it was posted earlier today.

Not much is known about Lincoln’s directorial effort just yet, but the pieces of his upcoming movie trilogy are starting to come together. For one, we know that the first film is due to go into production this year and it may even make its way into theaters. It’s also believed that Danai Gurira will return as Michonne in a few of the pics. They could also end up being the actress’ last TWD appearance, too, as the Avengers: Infinity War star is set to vacate the series soon, much like Lincoln.

We’ll update you once we learn more about Andy’s gig behind the camera and what comes next for Rick, but in the meantime, you can catch The Walking Dead season 9 as it continues Sundays on AMC.
