Watch First Trailer For TNT’s New Fantasy Series The Librarians

TNT's original feature-length trilogy based around an information manager who vies to shield mankind from unspeakable evil, has been developed into a fully-fledged TV series. Star of The Librarian franchise, Noah Wyle, returns to rope together a gaggle of data wranglers this time for The Librarians. So far, the show has been granted a weekly ten-episode run. It'll presumably bag an order for future episodes if the ratings show promise, and judging by our first preview trailer, they're gonna be up there.

A heady mix of adventure, slapstick quips and action, the preview appears to be going for an amalgamation of every successful fantasy series… but it’s way, way funnier than it has any right to be. Taking a stab at the old “librarians are stuffy” stereotype, the hilarious opening narration is absolutely spot-on.

Venturing further into the preview, we’re introduced to this new iteration via a roster of fresh faces. Joining the ranks are Rebecca Romijn as a former NATO counter-terrorism leader, Christian Kane as an architecture genius, Lindy Booth as a young woman with synesthesia, John Kim’s tackling the thief-with-a-heart duties and bringing the team full circle is John Laroquette as the library’s dozy janitor. It might not have the bigger budget to rival fare like Game Of Thrones, but it sure does look like a helluva lot of fun.

The Librarians debuts on TNT on December 7th.

Returning to the universe of TNT’s hit movie franchise, The Librarian, this new series centers on an ancient organization hidden beneath the Metropolitan Public Library dedicated to protecting an unknowing world from the secret, magical reality hidden all around. This group solves impossible mysteries, fights supernatural threats and recovers powerful artifacts, including the Ark of the Covenant, the Spear of Destiny and Excalibur.
