Exclusive Video Interview: The Chainsmokers Talk Friend Zone Tour, Finding Their Sound And More

2015 has been a massive year for NYC-based DJs The Chainsmokers. The duo, which consists of Alex Pall and Drew Taggart, have been around since 2012, originally making a name for themselves with some huge remixes that found great success on Hype Machine and other popular music blogs. In 2013, they crossed over into the mainstream with their hit single "#SELFIE," and from there, it's been one heck of a roller coaster ride for the guys.

The duo, which consists of Alex Pall and Drew Taggart, have been around since 2012, originally making a name for themselves with some huge remixes that found great success on Hype Machine and other popular music blogs. In 2013, they crossed over into the mainstream with their hit single “#SELFIE,” and from there, it’s been one heck of a roller coaster ride for the guys.

Though there was certainly some initial backlash to that aforementioned track, Alex and Drew have since proven themselves has two of the most exciting producers in EDM at the moment, continuously refining their sound and showing off their depth with tracks like “Let You Go,” “Roses,” “Good Intentions” and more. Each new release is different from the last, and The Chainsmokers continue to surprise and impress us with their sound.

To cap off what has been a truly huge year, Alex and Drew have put together a Friend Zone tour, which is for “all the guys out there who are stuck in the friend zone.” Or so, that’s what they told us when we caught up with them for an exclusive interview during their stop in Toronto, where they played at Sound Academy to a sold out crowd.

Before the show, however, we sat down with the guys to talk all things music, including if they think they’ve found their signature sound yet, what they have in store for us in 2016, the importance of blogs and much more.

Hear what The Chainsmokers had to say in the video above and be sure to take a listen to their most recent track, “New York City,” below.
