In a creative move so bold that you’d have thought it originated during Mark Millar’s run on Ultimate Comics Avengers, the House of Ideas have decided to roll out a super group lineup so wild and eclectic that it may take you a while to believe it’s really happening. But I guess that very surprise is what Savage Avengers writer Gerry Duggan and artist Mike Deodato Jr. are counting on.

Like I said, the lineup alone may sell this series. If you’re curious, know that it consists of Wolverine, Punisher, Venom, Conan the Barbarian, Elektra and Brother Voodoo. But if you need a little more convincing, then you really should check out the trailer Marvel Comics have put together, which can be viewed at the top of this article.

In it, Duggan and Executive Editor Tom Brevoort hype the new series by going over the basics without dropping major spoilers. Additionally, it’s quite cool to see Deodato’s artwork being somewhat brought to life as a motion comic for this occasion.

As you can see, this ragtag “aggregate group” must venture to the Savage Land, thereby letting you know how the book got its name. Well, there’s probably that and the fact that none of the good guys featured are entirely squeaky clean. Heck, the visuals provided let us know what a bloody ride lies ahead.

Savage Avengers #1 is now available in comic shops. If you haven’t picked up a copy already, then perhaps you should look into it when venturing out for Free Comic Book Day this Saturday, May 4th.
