What So Not And GANZ Are A Match Made In Heaven On “Lone”

As tragic as the news of Flume's departure from What So Not might have sounded when it reached music fans last year, remaining DJ/producer Emoh Instead seems to be doing fine on his own. After setting Countdown NYE ablaze with his remix of RÜFÜS DU SOL’s “Innerbloom,” he's delivered an engrossing collaboration with Dutch hip-hop/trap artist titled "Lone."

As tragic as the news of Flume’s departure from What So Not might have sounded when it reached music fans last year, remaining DJ/producer Emoh Instead seems to be doing just fine on his own. After setting Countdown NYE ablaze with his remix of RÜFÜS DU SOL’s “Innerbloom,” he’s delivered an engrossing collaboration with Dutch hip-hop/trap artist GANZ titled “Lone.”

Breathy verses by vocalist JOY and a tastefully understated piano melody meet with effervescent synth work to set a serene tone for the track over the first several measures. A surging lead commands attention at the drop, with a bridge afterwards introducing tangential elements to the arrangement.

Needless to say, GANZ’s melodic production style certainly lends itself to What So Not’s crystalline soundscapes. There have been no announcements that would suggest Emoh Instead has been planning to fill Flume’s spot, but if he did, GANZ seems a prime candidate.

As far as “Lone” itself, however, the full track comes out through OWSLA on April 8th. Make sure to look out for more from What So Not as the Australian DJ/producer appears determined not to let the aforementioned split signal the demise of the project.
