This long gestating remake of 60’s crime caper Gambit has finally clawed its way out of development hell, with director Michael Hoffman of The Last Station and actor Colin Firth both attached and in talks for the film.

Firth has been involved with the project for a long time and was with it when it plummeted into various complications and the script by the Coen brothers has been around for years. But now probably due to the awards success of Colin Firth for last year’s A Single Man and this year’s The King’s Speech the remake is gearing back up again for a tentative May start date next year.

The story of the original is as follows:

Harry Dean has a plan to pull off a major robbery and needs Nicole as a gambit and windowdressing. He outlines his ideas about his perfect crime in a dream sequence and then meets Nicole, and nothing goes quite right again.

As its written by the brothers Coen it will most likely take liberties and change a few things around. Colin Firth will take the role of the lead Harry Dean, and there are no other cast members yet in place.
