During Sony’s Gamescom 2014 presentation earlier today, Bungie took to the stage to announce that the first expansion for Destiny will launch in December. The announcement was made alongside the debut of a new PvP centric trailer.
Titled “The Dark Below,” not much is known about what this first expansion will include. Obviously this is due to the fact that Destiny is not out for another month, but it is a little odd for a release date to already be announced. Typically developers would wait until the game has been out before announcing DLC, but this is the age we live in I suppose.
In less alarming news, the newly released trailer for Destiny explains each of the PvP modes that will be available upon launch. Some of these modes include Rumble, which is your traditional deathmatch, and Salvage, which is also about killing enemies, but with a twist involving the salvaging of relics.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m still excited about receiving the full Destiny experience later this year. But, the fact that Bungie has already set a release date for additional DLC sits wrong with me. I’m hoping the case here is that “The Dark Below” is sizable enough that it couldn’t possibly have been included with the full game. Regardless, I suppose we’ll find out the answer come December.
Destiny is set to launch on September 9th for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
