Whew boy, Hideo Kojima has had one hell of a ride over the past year. From the public split between himself and Konami to missing out on an awards appearance due to contractual obligations – the man must be fed up of being in the limelight, right?
Well, he’s not. At least not yet, anyway. As part of the 19th D.I.C.E. Awards Ceremony next month, Mr. Kojima is to be inducted into the AIAS (Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences) hall of fame, and a very familiar face is due to present him with the award.
Famed director Guillermo del Toro is to present the award to Kojima, reuniting the pair once more, after their collaboration on Silent Hills came to a premature end.
President of AIAS Martin Rae said his own piece in regards to Kojima’s nomination for the award:
Hideo Kojima’s career-defining works have shaped much of how the video game industry approaches cinematic storytelling and player engagement. As one of the most well-loved and well-respected designers of our time, it is a great honor for the Academy to induct him into our Hall of Fame.
Hideo is a game creator whose eyes have always looked towards the future, and we look forward to his thoughts on the D.I.C.E. Summit stage.
Congratulations, Hideo Kojima! You may have had a tough year ion 2015, but that period is finally behind you, it seems. But what’s next for the esteemed industry figure? Well, we already know he’s formed his own studio and already begun work on a new title. But what is it? We’re just going to have to sit tight and wait patiently, unfortunately.
